A New Way to Tell a Story
Every chapter ends at a junction — a real decision the characters must make. The community votes on what they choose. The winning vote becomes permanent canon. There are no resets, no rewrites, no narrator overrides. Just the story we build together, one decision at a time.
Each chapter is rendered two ways: as a long-form blog post you can read, and as a 90-second cinematic recap video you can watch. Cast your vote on Votara, watch the story move, witness the consequences in the next chapter.Public chapters are written for adults — stakes are real, characters lose, and the world is strange in deliberate ways. Supporters unlock the Vault, where scenes go further than the public chapter can.
Our Journey
Why It Exists
Most interactive stories give you the illusion of choice — multiple endings, branching paths, “your decisions matter.” But you can always rewind, replay, see the other path. The choices don’t really cost anything.
Votara is the opposite. There is one timeline. The community decides what happens, and once a junction closes, that’s the only version of the story that ever existed. No rewinds. No resets. The unchosen paths haunt the chapters that follow.
It’s an experiment in what stories can become when readers actually have skin in the game.
